Lufthansa orders 20 Boeing 747-8 jetliners

Lufthansa (Frankfurt) as expected became the first airline to place an order for the passenger version of the new fuel-efficient Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental. It ordered 20 and also secured purchase rights for another 20. The first copy will arrive in 2010 after it introduces the Airbus A380. Lufthansa is also the first airline to order both the A380 (due in 2009) and the 747-8.
It also retained its policy of supporting both manufacturers by also ordering seven A340-600s. The first is due in 2008. LH is also considered a be the potential launch customer for the A350 XWB.
