Boeing said on Monday that it has begun long-term fatigue testing on its new 787, a three-year program meant to simulate the stresses of years of flying.
Boeing said its engineers would use mechanical devices to apply pressure to key points on the 787, in combinations that will eventually simulate more than 100,000 flights. The test plane will have more than three times as many simulated “flights” as a 787 would be expected to make during its lifetime, Boeing said.
