Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 received its airworthness certification

The occasion was marked today by a special ceremony at Rolls-Royce in Derby, UK, at which the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) handed over the engine’s airworthiness certificate, which clears the Trent 1000 to power the Dreamliner’s first flight later this year. … Including business yet to be announced, orders have been placed for over 500 Trent 1000 engines by 15 operators and five leasing companies – approximately half the Boeing 787 customers who have made an engine decision.

Boeing 777 Trent 800 aero engine fails on takeoff – pictures

Swedish aviation enthusiasts recording tail numbers at
Stockholm Arlanda airport were shocked at the weekend to see the
failure of a Roll-Royce Trent 800 aero engine.The Malaysian Boeing 777-200ER
(9M-MRI) was en route back to Kuala Lumpur as flight MH091 from New York
Newark on Friday when pilots had to return shortly after takeoff at 13:55 due to
engine problem. Swedish newspaper Expressen published photographs of the
incident yesterday. The aircraft, with 279 passengers on board, suffered the failure
on take-off (pictured below) before continuing to around 8,000ft (2,700m) to dump
fuel. The aircraft landed without problems.

Airbus to potentially release 3 new jets at the Farnborough Air Show as A350 or A370

Airbus will expand its offering of two new mid-sized planes to three in order to catch up with surging rival Boeing Co., industry sources said on Friday. Worried
that its pair of proposed A350 models aimed at competing with the Boeing 787 due in 2008 will do little to slow sales of Boeing’s larger 777, France-based Airbus
will add a third, larger model. “They are definitely looking at doing three,” one industry source said, adding that the new planes were likely to be named the
A350-800, A350-900 and A350-1,000. There was a chance Airbus could go with the name A370, he added. A second source confirmed the story

Supersonics Business Jets ? Yes according to Rolls Royce Sir Ralph

Supersonic business jets are on their way, the man hailed as the saviour
of engine giant Rolls-Royce predicted at EBACE today.Speaking at the
opening session, Sir Ralph Robins, retired chairman of the UK engine
manufacturer, said that the technology and the business need was “very
close to making a business jet capable of travelling at Mach 1.6 without
audible sound waves”. Robins, a regular business aviation user when he
ran Rolls-Royce, said that coming up with an economic powerplant, using
the core of a large jet engine, would “not be too difficult”.He also said
